Oskar Zarzycki

My name is Oskar Zarzycki. I am originally from Omaha, Nebraska, and have been living in Madison for the past 14 years. I am a first generation Polish-American, and am bilingual, love to play sports, stay active, and enjoy the great outdoors. My parents, Arkadiusz and Bozena, are both originally from Poland. I also have a younger brother, Alan, who was diagnosed with regressive autism at the age of 1.5 years old. My brother has been my inspiration in life to pursue a career in the medical field and to succeed in helping and caring for people around me. I am currently an undergraduate student at UW-Madison. I am planning on majoring in Biochemistry, and also following a pre-med track. My professional goals would be to get into medical school and to become a doctor, possibly an orthopedic surgeon or pediatrician.

The Arndt Family Scholarship has given me the amazing opportunity to attend such a great and respected university like UW-Madison. The scholarship has taken a lot of financial stress away from my family. It allows for me to have more time for my studies, be able to prepare more for med school and to participate more in the community through volunteering, organizations, and internships. This summer I will have the opportunity to volunteer in a hospital in Poland, where I will be working with doctors to further my knowledge and experience in the medical field.
