Shannon Behling

My name is Shannon and I graduated from James Madison Memorial High School on the west side of Madison. I was ecstatic when I received my acceptance letter to UW-Madison and taken aback when I found out I was going to receive a full tuition scholarship. I am currently a senior at UW-Madison School of Nursing and I will be continuing to study there next year as well, for my fifth year. I could not have afforded to attend UW-Madison without the Arndt Family Scholarship, let alone attend for an extra year. I have had so many wonderful experiences at this school so far and I am excited to see what’s to come next year. With this enormous gift I hope to realize my professional goals for the future which include largely becoming the best RN I can be. I see myself hopefully starting my career in Madison. I cannot begin to tell you how grateful I am for the Arndt Family Scholarship Fund. This generosity has given me the opportunity to study to become a nurse at one of the best schools. The tremendous impact it has had in my life has facilitated impact in the lives of others as I have been caring for patients in clinical at St. Mary’s, Meriter, UW, and the American Family Children’s Hospital. I have also been able to give care to people in rural Guatemala during my time here. Good deeds are sometimes contagious and I believe there has been a ripple effect starting with John Arndt. I admire him for believing in education and those pursuing it against all financial odds. He has really given us the greatest gift. There were tears of joy and surprise the day I found out and I feel extremely privileged. I am so thankful for the opportunity to succeed.
